Boston Red Sox have exceeded all expectations so far in 2021

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora at his press conference.

Alex Cora is the main reason for the Boston Red Sox success:

Alex Cora should be given a lot of credit for the Red Sox team early success so far this season. Cora has his team currently sitting second place in the AL East one game behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Through 52 games, Boston’s record is 33-23 sitting pretty heading into June. It is good to see that general manager Chaim Bloom, and Red Sox ownership made the right move on bringing Cora back after he served his year-long suspension. Alex as you can tell is a player’s manager always willing to help out and make everyone better around him. So far this season is reminding me of the 2018 season, in which Cora led Boston to another World Series championship.

Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta pitching.

Boston Red Sox starting pitching has been decent so far this season:

Nathan Eovaldi: 6-2, 58 strikeouts, 4.01 ERA

Martin Perez: 3-2, 48 strikeouts, 3.55 ERA

Nick Pivetta: 6-0, 59 strikeouts, 3.86 ERA

Garrett Richards: 4-3, 47 strikouts, 3.83 ERA

Eduardo Rodriguez: 5-3, 54 strikeouts, 5.06 ERA

All five of the starters have pitched fairly well so far this season. Ace Chris Sale is still out recovering from Tommy John surgery, he will be looking to come back in late summer. The addition of Sale would be a huge boost heading down the stretch late into the season. As long as the pitching staff continues to get better and stay healthy, expect Boston to make a run at the Division title. The Red Sox team Earned run average is 3.85 and is fourth-best in the American League.

Red Sox Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez.

Offensively Boston has fire power in its lineup:

J.D. Martinez has been hitting the ball well so far this season. Martinez is hitting .328/.399/.587/.986, 12 HR’s and 39 RBI’s. Rafael Devers currently hitting .284/.354./.607/.961, hitting 14 HR’s, and 43 RBI’s. Xander Bogaerts has also been having a good season posting numbers as they follow, .326/.387/.565/.952, with 10 HR’s, and 31 RBI’s. Throughout the entire lineup with names like Alex Verdugo, Hunter Renfroe have also contributed well to this offensive explosion. If the Red Sox’s top three-to-four hitters stay consistent from now to the end of the season, the team’s better watch out once they face Boston late in the season.
