The Playoffs Are (a) Fair Game

The Boston Pride live to fight another day as they dominated the Buffalo Beauts 6-0 Sunday. Defenseman Mallory Souliotis led the charge with two goals, while linemates Kaliegh Fratkin and Christina Putigna each tallied three assists. The Pride offense really set the tone heading into Game 3 on Monday night, where they get one last chance to push for the playoffs.

The Pride derail the Beauts 6-0 Sunday ahead of the playoffs.

Boston’s scoring chances came early but a scoreless first period proved to be a good omen in the long run. In their last three games, Boston ended the first period with a 1-0 lead, eventually losing that goal advantage in each game. An empty scoreboard presented Boston with an interesting challenge in the second period. But more importantly, being able to maintain and expand on the lead.

“They’re definitely trying to find the backdoor openings against [Carly] Jackson. Boston knows that they certainly can’t beat her straight on and expect to score.”

-Erica Ayla, on the Pride’s scoring opportunities

Buffalo’s momentum came to an abrupt end after the final whistle of Saturday’s game. Where they took game 1 of the best-of-three series, beating Boston 2-1. There was simply no attacking zone for Buffalo, but more so a goalie to shoot on and then clear the puck out. The Beauts put 31 shots on net, not bad, none of which dented the twine to muster up a rally of any kind.

Rookies Powering to the Playoffs

The Pride’s 2020 draft class has been on quite a tear this season. Forward Sammy Davis and defenseman Meghara McManus joined the shooting gallery recording one goal apiece in Sunday’s matinee. All eyes point to the second and third line keeping the momentum rolling into Monday’s finale. And hopefully into Thursday’s Semifinals…(fingers crossed).

Though there is still an entire game to play to determine the fourth seed, the Beauts will not take this defeat lightly. Beauts defenseman Lisa Chesson recorded a powerplay goal in Saturday’s matchup. Buffalo rented out the penalty box Sunday with three penalties. Not terrible, but something to avoid in Game 3. Both teams know what is at stake, the suitcases are definitely in the hotel lobby in case anything goes awry – for either team.

Buffalo Beauts are set to take on the Boston Pride in Game 3 – Monday, February 1 at 8:30 PM inside the bubble at Lake Placid. Live stream can be found on Twitch.tv.
