Sunday’s win over Miami was a step in the right direction. The Offense looked good under Cam Newton. The defense made stops when it needed too. This new look Patriots team could win 10 games with Newton at quarterback. Their schedule is tough but between the coaching amd execution they should be alright. Below are some takeaway’s of the win as the Patriots post Brady are 1-0.
For the first time in 20 years the Patriots opened the season with a new quarterback. The new look Patriots offense was heavily based off Cam Newton. Newton, who ran all over the place was the key factor in the Patriots win. His energy and connection with the offense was solid on Sunday, he even had a fist bump on the sidelines with Josh McDaniels. He seems to really fit with what the Patriots are trying to do. His leadership early on is great and showed yesterday. Having a mobile quarterback is key in today’s game, and they the don’t win that game without Cam Newton.
The backup quarterback for the game was Brian Hoyer not Jarrett Stidham. Not a good feeling as Stidham went from two to three on the quarterback depth chart. His setback with the injury did him no favors, and Hoyer did better than Stidham in training camp.
Cam Newton Fit Right Into The Patriots Offense
The offensive line played well yesterday protecting Newton. David Andrews back was huge in the offensive line. Having them block well made it easy for Newton to find holes and gain yardage with the run. As for receivers, Edelman looked like himself except for the one drop he had early in the game after getting hit. N’Keal Harry’s fumble on the two yard line in the fourth quarter is something you can’t do. He needs to be better after having a down year last year. The defense was solid especially the secondary. Stephen Gilmore had a nice INT and forced Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to make mistakes
Seattle Will Be Tough
For a team that had a shortened off season they were prepared to start the season. Yes it was the Dolphins, but they came into Foxborough last year and beat them. The Dolphins improved from week 17 of last year, and the Patriots took care of business. The Patriots have a tougher task next week against Seattle but yesterday proved, they’re off to a great start. Next week on Sunday Night Football will be a challenge. However, they will be ready and prepared to go.
