The Quarterback Competition Is On Between Newton, Stidham, and Hoyer

For the first time in 20 years, there is a quarterback competition in New England. Jarrett Stidham, Cam Newton, and Brian Hoyer will compete for the starting job. 2020 has brought a lot of changes not only because of Brady leaving but also because of the pandemic. By now there have been practices with OTA’s and minicamp. However, now it’s just a month to get ready for the new season and find out who will start week one. If anything Cam Newton should start week one has he’s the veteran who has the experience.

Cam Newton is motivated to prove that he’s still an elite quarterback in the league. The former NFL MVP has the best shot to win a Super Bowl with Belichick has head coach. He’s coming here and has to adapt to the Patriots culture. He needs to understand that Belichick doesn’t stand for distractions and you have to put the team first. Newton came to New England to be a starter not hold a clipboard. I also don’t see Newton and Stidham alternating weeks as the starting quarterback. The one who gets the offense the most will be the starter. Newton got a head start when he signed working with Sanu, Harry, Edelman, and others. Stidham and Hoyer were also working with receivers.

Brian Hoyer is a career backup and always has been. He won’t be the starter if anything he’s the third-string quarterback. In my opinion, Newton will start and Stidham will be the backup to give him enough time to learn the Patriots system. Newton is here to put up big numbers, win, then get paid next year when he’s a free agent.

It will be interesting to see what happens but for now, all eyes are mainly on Newton and Stidham. Belichick and Josh McDaniels have their work cut out for them heading into the season. There is a lot of uncertainty with the season in general and especially at quarterback. The competition is heating up.
