Jarrett Stidham is heading into his second season with the Patriots. It could also be his first season under center as the starting quarterback. With Belichick not drafting a quarterback in the 2020 draft it’s clear all eyes are on Stidham. He has the same amount of guys on offense that Brady had last year. The only difference is Stidham will work better with the young guys. Last year Brady lost patience with players that didn’t run the right route. Stidham will work better with guys like N’Keal Harry and Mohamed Sanu. He also will work well with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
If the Patriots have a better season offensively than they did last year that isn’t just a reflection on Stidham and McDaniels. It’s also a reflection on Brady, that he didn’t have the time to work with the guys that didn’t run the right route or do what they were supposed to do. Guys like N’Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers won’t have to worry about the greatest of all time breathing down their necks to not make a mistake. Stidham is new and in the same position as they all. It’s a fresh start for this offense and it’s exciting to see how it will play out.
Josh McDaniels’ reputation will go up if he succeeds with Stidham. It would also better his chances of becoming a head coach someday. For Stidham it will build up his confidence to be under center for the 2020 season and learn from the best coaching in the league. It’s not going to be perfect, but it could be a more relaxed and better offense than a year ago believe it or not. The attitude is a fresh start around the team with Brady in Tampa. I think Stidham will do well and you will see it early on. I even think Edelman’s leadership will be helpful too. Having Stidham on the sideline last year will be extremely helpful going into this season. He is getting to know the offense better, and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
