Money In The Bank: Sunday May 10th, 7pm on WWE Network
For the 2nd time the WWE will hold a Pay-Per-View event with 0 fans in attendance for it’s Money In The Bank Event. Due to the circumstances in the world the show will be emanating from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando Florida with one exception. The name of the show is Money In The Bank, however it’s also the name of a ladder match which features six men and six women doing battle for a men’s and women’s briefcase. Inside the briefcase is a “contract” for a world title match anywhere, anytime for the next year.
In a year of firsts for the company, this match will be competed inside of WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, CT. That’s right, an actual wrestling match will take place inside an office building. Both the Men’s and Women’s matches will take place simultaneously starting in the lobby of WWE Headquarters. They will have to fight their way floor by floor to the rooftop. On the roof is a ring and a plethora of ladders that can be used as weapons, and a means to retrieve the briefcase. It’s probable that this match has already taken place and will probably resemble the WWF Super Bowl Commercial from the late 90’s (Search for it on youtube). With no sports to predict, why not try predicting some winners for Sunday’s Money In The Bank Event?
Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Nia Jax vs. Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Dana Brooke vs. Lacey Evans vs. Carmella
The Money In The Bank Ladder Match is a way for WWE to provide a push for a competitor either for a championship or a main storyline run. With that said, Shayna Baszler is a former MMA cage fighter that has dominated the competition during her run in the WWE. Recently she was in a highly competitive program with Becky Lynch who is the Raw Women’s Championship, with both women bringing out the best of each other.
The rest of the competition has flaws in my mind that hold them back. Jax is coming off of double knee surgery, so a match like this could have some medical setbacks. Asuka is on her way reportedly to WWE’s NXT program, where travel and scheduling could be limited with the show operating out of Orlando all year long. Lacey Evans, a former officer in the marines, would be my second pick to win. She has been a face for six months and has been in a personal rivalry with the Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley. Carmella and Dana Brooke could come close, but storyline wise it makes sense for my pick Shayna Baszler to pick up the victory.
Men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match: AJ Styles vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Aleister Black vs. Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin vs. Otis
When thinking of winners in matches like Money In The Bank I think about what the best storyline could be. King Corbin previously won this match, however was one of only a few people to not cash in the briefcase successfully. He is the top heel on Smackdown, and he has been very dependable for scheduling and the fans hate him with a passion, which is hard to do today. AJ Styles took part in the boneyard match with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania last month and unearthed himself winning a last shot gauntlet match. Styles, much like Corbin, is the top heel on his show Raw. Both shows have face (good guy) champions for the moment (Braun Strowman – Universal Champion, Drew McIntyre -WWE Champion) which means it would make sense to have a heel (bad guy) win and cash in after a tough match. Rey Mysterio is down to a handful of matches left, and Daniel Bryan may be taking some time off while Otis is a potential replacement for someone that couldn’t be there because of traveling circumstances. It’s a coin flip to me, but I think King Corbin comes away with the briefcase.
