Hopefully Major League Baseball will be starting about a month from now. New news has emerged that baseball will make a return around the beginning of June, possibly in the middle of the month. Fans, players and teams are ready for the season to get under way so they give the fans something to watch and look forward to. Baseball has already missed over a month due to COVID-19, and will miss the month of May. Roughly around 100 regular seasons will be looking to be played, instead of the 162 normal season.
Onto the Boston Red Sox and who will be leading the pitch staff this upcoming season. As fans already know, Chris Sale will be out due to his recent Tommy-John surgery that he had back at the end of March. Eduardo Rodriguez is next in line to lead the pitching staff. Eduardo had a stellar 2019 campaign, where he posted a 19-6 win, loss record in 203.1 innings pitched with 213 strikeouts. The only down side is his Earned Run Average was 3.81. That is a bit high for your best starter.
Rodriguez will have some big shoes to fill with Sale being out due to his shoulder surgery. The Red Sox are in a tough spot pitching wise due to lack of consistency from the other starters. If Eduardo can perform like he did a season ago and get his Earned Run Average down to like a 2.65 or so Boston will be just fine at the top of its rotation. After E-Rod you have Nathan Eovaldi, Martin Perez, and Ryan Weber. Not the best staff, but Boston will rely heavily on its top two starters, Rodriguez and Eovaldi, going forward. Fans will just have to wait and see how the season goes.
