News has emerged that Oregon's quarterback Justin Herbert has been on teams radars' as one of the first QB's taken. The New England Patriots have been linked to the future top ten pick. New England would have to move up from the 23rd pick in the first round into the top ten to at least have a shot in drafting Herbert. I get that it's all rumors just a week away from the NFL Draft, but more than likely that he'll be taken by a team in the top ten.
They love Justin Herbert, but enough to trade up for him?" one rival GM said. Pats do have 12 picks—second-most in the draft—for ammo, but only one of those comes in the top 85. If they want Herbert, they’d likely have to be willing to part with the 2021 first-rounder in a trove of picks.
Justin Herbert did have a good college career at Oregon. He threw for 10,541 yards in his four years. Also he had 95 touchdowns to only 23 interceptions during his tenure with the Ducks. That's pretty impressive numbers for a guy that would of probably been one of the first quarterbacks taken in last year's draft as well. He has the skill and mindset to be an NFL ready player and scans the field well.
The biggest question is would he fit New England's system? Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels has worked well with quarterbacks throughout his coaching career. Obviously it would be a competition between current projected starter Jarrett Stidham and Herbert. New England nation is going to have to wait and see what happens next Thursday on draft night.
