Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe tweeted this yesterday about Jason Varitek:
The Red Sox need a bench coach and Varitek's name has always seemed to be linked to a coaching career since his retirement, most notably replacing Alex Cora this season.
Tek has not strayed far from the Sox since officially retiring March of 2012. September 2012 it was announced that Tek would be named a special assistant to the general manager, which at the time was Ben Cherington, and has remained in that role to date.
I think making Tek the new bench coach is a no-brainer. The Sox have been through a lot this off-season and it would be nice to see a familiar face in the dugout helping to right the ship that is the 2020 Red Sox.
