Finally complete, the second baseman of the future is coming to the Red Sox from the Dodgers, along with the replacement right fielder, and Chaim Bloom got big brother Andrew Friedman to give up a Top 5 prospect from his system.
Jeter Downs is another high school draftee, like Verdugo, from the Dodgers system. He reached Double A last year as a 20 year old. Overall, between high A and Double A he hit .276 with 35 doubles and 24 home runs. He’s a middle infielder who could fit nicely at second base for the Red Sox in the near future (ETA 2022). He was recently ranked as the #5 prospect in the Dodger’s system. By default he becomes the top ranked player in the Red Sox 30th ranked system.
Alex Verdugo was the top ranked prospect for the Dodgers prior to coming up to the Dodgers last year. Considering Mookie Betts has one year left before free agency, and David Price is an injury waiting to happen, getting two likely long term big leaguers is a great haul for Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox.
This isn’t the complete deal:
Chaim Bloom beats Andrew Friedman at the dinner table and a long saga is done.
Now to the business of the season!
Catching prospect Connor Wong is included in the deal, and Price’s salary will be split:
