Celtics Weekly Slate

It’s another busy week for our beloved Boston Celtics. Last week was…not great. They went 1-3 last week and this week does not get any easier. The Celtics have four more games this week, and the standings are really heating up. With that being said, let’s take a look at the four games on tap for the Celtics for the upcoming week.

Monday 1/13 vs. Chicago Bulls

The Celtics come off of an impressive home win against the New Orleans Pelicans to take on the Chicago Bulls tonight. The Bulls enter the contest 14-26 on the season. I’ve written about the Bulls before, so I won’t go too much into it. They’re a young team with a bright future. But right now, they are not as talented on paper against the Celtics. The Celtics can go down low on this Bulls teams at will. There’s too much perimeter talent for the Bulls to concern themselves with for the entire game. Sure, a guy like Zach Lavine might have a good game. But at the end of the day, the Celtics need to start the week off on a good note.

Wednesday 1/15 vs. Detroit Pistons

A lot of speculation is going to be surrounding this game. Andre Drummond will be a free agent at the end of the season and the trade deadline is around the corner. Will the Celtics make a move here? We’ll find out soon. Anyways, back to the game preview. Drummond is going to be an animal down low. He’s going to get his double-double. But, it’s not going to be enough. The Pistons are in the bottom third of the league (22nd) in points per game and the Celtics are one of the NBA’s best defensive teams. This is another game in which the Celtics need to take care of business. I like their chances to win this game and be on a potential three game winning streak.

Thursday 1/16 @ Milwaukee Bucks

I’m going to be flat out honest, I don’t like the Celtics chances here. Yes, they beat Milwaukee earlier in the season at the T.D. Garden. But Milwaukee has played a lot better since that particular game. They are in the top five of a lot of categories on both sides of the basketball. There’s Giannis that everyone has to figure out how to cover. The Bucks will have too many weapons for the Celtics to overcome. If the Celtics can’t beat Philadelphia, who I think is a huge step down from Milwaukee, they are going to struggle mightily in Fiserv Forum. Hope for a miracle in this one!

Saturday 1/18 vs. Phoenix Suns

The week finishes up with the Phoenix Suns coming to town. The one thing to look out for in this game is Devin Booker. Booker makes something special happen whenever he plays in Boston. Remember his 70 point game? Here’s a refresher if you need one.

The guy can score at will. Other than Booker, I don’t know who else really scares me. This Phoenix Suns team seems to get off to hot starts to their season, then cools off as the season progresses onward. With the combination of Hayward, Tatum, and Brown; the Suns will have a lot of trouble figuring out who to stop. I love the Celtics in this game.

The Celtics should realistically go 3-1 this week. Then again, anything can happen in the NBA. They’re in a dog fight with Miami for the two seed in the Eastern conference. Every winnable game matters now. Go 3-1, improve to 29-12, and get ready for a marque matchup with the Lakers next Monday night.
