Mr. 300 Bill Belichick

Mr. 300 Bill Belichick

Only two coaches in NFL history have 300 wins. Make room for the GOAT, Bill Belichick, as he puts on the finishing touches of a win against the Browns and joins Don Shula and George Halas as the third to reach 300.

Bill Belichick has seen it all

Bill Belichicks first win as a head coach for the Cleveland Browns came against the New England Patriots. Things came full circle today.

Belichick eventually left Cleveland as it was not a good situation for anyone involved. He was fired after a subpar stint going 36-44 for the Browns. Bill left in 1995 and decided to go back and be an assistant with his mentor Bill Parcells. The two worked in New England for one year in 1996, then left for the Jets from 1997-1999.

Resigns as HC for the NYJ

After the 1999 season Bill Parells retired for the first time leaving Belichick to step up for the Jets. That didn’t last long, after just one day Bill wasn’t feeling it.

The Jets wanted Parcells but he was under contract with the Patriots

Belichick stated he wasn’t thrilled about ownership and he stunned reporters saying “I resign as the HC for the New York Jets.” The infamous cocktail napkin Belichick wrote his resignation on was my personal favorite Belichick moment before he got to New England.

Let’s get to the winning, Belichick was named the Head coach for the Patriots in 2000. His first year didn’t go as planned, with the team going 5-11 and the highest paid QB Drew Bledsoe was not what Robert Kraft was looking for. In 2001 Bledsoe was hit by Mo Lewis. which changed the franchise forever. Tom Brady came in for the injured Bledsoe and the Patriots went 11-5.

Belichick was smart enough to stick with Brady over the franchise QB and went on to win the Super Bowl that year against the Rams. Belichicks defensive gameplan was perfect against the “greatest show on turf.” Bill stuck with his gut and his new QB led the offense down the field to set up a kick to win his first Super Bowl as a Head coach.

Belichick had previously won two Super Bowls as an assistant coach for the Giants, in 2001 he picked up his first and definitely not his last.

Belichick’s Bling

The Patriots failed to make the playoffs the following year, but in 2003 Belichick won his second Super Bowl going 14-2. The following year the Patriots were on a roll like I’ve never seen, again going 14-2. Bill Belichick led his team to they’re third Super Bowl in four years.

After winning his third Super Bowl the Patriots were NFL royalty and Belichick was king. The Pats went 10-6 the next year and 12-4 in 2006. Belichick just missing a shot at another championship, and the Patriots decided to make some changes. The off-season before the 2007 season was surreal for Patriots fans, Bill brought in big time weapons after the disappointing end the previous year.

Randy Moss was brought in along with Wes Walker and Donte’ Stallworth. Belichick was determined to get back to the big game and the Patriots went 16-0, breaking records along the way. The team made it back to the Super Bowl but his former team the Giants got the win that day.

Belichick has only had a season with less than 10 wins twice, his first year with Bledsoe ,and in 2002 coming off a SB win. The Patriots were always in the mix or favored as Super Bowl contenders, and Bill brought them back in 2011 again against the Giants while taking another loss. The media thought the magic was gone after those two losses, but it wasn’t. The team made it back in 2014/ beating the Seahawks after a 10 year drought.

The next year the Patriots were ready to repeat, but ended up losing a heartbreaker in the AFC Championship game. Bill and Brady were determined, and in 2016 Bill had to work some magic as Brady was suspended for the first four weeks. Belichick didn’t flinch as the team went 3-1, giving Brady a good record to come back to.

The Pats went back to the Super Bowl in 2016 and it was a game for the ages. Belichick’s team was down 28-3 with a couple minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots had the greatest comeback of all time, beating the Falcons. There isn’t a coach in history that could’ve pulled that off, with the help of the greatest QB of all time.

The following year the Patriots were a powerhouse again and right back to the Super Bowl. Philadelphia ended the Patriots run in a shootout. The Patriots coming off a heartbreaking loss weren’t shaken up and the defense was starting to look dominant. In 2018 Belichick worked his magic again, as the Patriots won the AFC championship on the road in KC. The win was amazing, and Belichick held the high flying Chiefs to no points in the first half.

Back in the Super Bowl again, the Patriots were facing the number one offense in the NFL the LA Rams. Belichick is a defensive genius, and it showed as his defense held the Rams to a total of thee points, as the Belichick and the Patriots won their sixth SB. The man is the greatest coach in any sport, there’s no debate. This year Bill is just showing off with his defense leading in just about every category. The team’s ranked Number 1 in the league again, undefeated and just dominating on defense. That’s the Bill Belichick defense, he’s more involved now with no Defensive Coordinator. Belichick has a chance to have the greatest defense of all time this year and get back to another SB. The accomplishments of Belichick are unmatched. Now he joins an exclusive club with his 300th win.

Congratulations Bill Belichick, now we’re on to Baltimore.
