Addressing the Patriots Biggest Needs Right Now

We all know the deal with the Patriots right now. They are 6-0 and have two games left on their schedule before they are halfway done with the season. The second half of their season includes games against Philadelphia, Baltimore, Houston, and Kansas City. Minus the Kansas City game, the others are all on the road. With this is mind, what do the Patriots need to be even better than they already are? Let’s take a look at a few of the biggest needs the Patriots should address at this moment.

A Dependable Kicker

I’m sorry, but Mike Nugent is not going to be the answer long-term at kicker. He has already missed his fair share of field goals and extra points. I understand you aren’t going to find a kicker like Stephen Gostkowski. Yes, he was struggling this season and has missed some big kicks in the past. But, we still would rather take Gostkowski than a large majority of kickers in the league. With Gostkowski on the IR for the rest of the season, the Patriots have to find something better. I don’t care if you have to give up two first round picks for Justin Tucker. Do what you have to do to win this year and get this Nugent guy out of here please!

A MUCH Better Offensive Line

The Patriots have been plagued at the offensive line positions with injuries. David Andrews is out for the season and that was a major blow to the offensive line. Isaiah Wynn was another big blow to the offensive line this year too. The Patriots have been bringing guys in and out for the line and it hasn’t really done much good. The snaps take too long to get to Brady’s hands. Brady is getting pressured way more this season than last season. Why not go for a guy like Trent Williams in Washington? He’s already unhappy and in a terrible situation in Washington. Throw the Redskins a bone and get some much needed offensive line help.

Maybe Another Tight End?

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that I like the Patriots bringing back Ben Watson. They even went out and signed Eric Tomlinson, who spent part of his career with the Giants and Jets. But let’s face it, that’s not enough. Ryan Izzo is serviceable and Matt LaCosse is now injured. Also, Rob Gronkowski isn’t walking through the tunnel any time soon folks. So, the Patriots need to do something. Maybe they can hit up Atlanta and ask for the price on Austin Hooper? This Patriots tight end production is very, very low. They need somebody who is a legitimate red zone threat. Maybe, you can get that with Austin Hooper. Bottom line, the Patriots need to do something better with that tight end spot.

The Patriots are far from perfect. Sure, their record right now is perfect. But, they do have noticeable flaws. If you can tighten up those small areas, this team will be difficult to beat come playoffs. This New England Patriots team wants another run at a Super Bowl, their third in four years. Go all in for this year and deal with contracts and such next off-season. Let’s see what Bill Belichick has up his sleeve next!
