Patriots-Dolphins Week Two Breakdown and Analysis

Week Two came and went for the Patriots and it was another annihilation. This time, the culprits were the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots came into this game as double digit favorites on the road. When that happens, you know the home team could be in for a bad day. The Dolphins had a horrible day to say the least. The Patriots came out and “squished the fish” by a score of 43-0.

What went right for the Patriots? What could have possibly went wrong? Here’s a breakdown of the Patriots-Dolphins week two matchup.

Antonio Brown Was Involved Right Away

Fans were wondering how Antonio Brown would be implemented in the Patriots offense. Would he only be used on third down situations? Was he going to be just a deep threat? How often would they actually use him? We got our answers on Sunday. His play on the field shows just how quickly he can adapt to any offense, especially the Patriots. Brown finished the day with four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. He had three receptions in the first scoring drive alone, and was also used for an end around. He was targeted eight times. It was great to see the Brady-Brown connection starting to happen. Brown is going to be great with this Patriots offense going forward. His demeanor off of the field? Well, that’s a completely different story!

The Defense This Year Is Legit

Four interceptions, seven sacks, and zero points! Yes, you read that correctly. The defense has allowed six points in their past three games, dating back to last year’s Super Bowl. This defense is starting off hot and we love to see that as Patriots fans. Jamie Collins is glad to be back as he had quite the game. An interception returned for a touchdown along with five total tackles.

He was a monster all over the field. Don’t forget about Stephon Gilmore also taking an interception back to the house as well. This defense had the reputation of starting out slow in past seasons. In 2019, the script has certainly flipped. This Patriots defense is going to give opposing offenses a lot of problems. The rest of the NFL needs to be alert of how good this Patriots defense is going to be all season.

The “Stephen Gostkowski Is Bad” Crew Is Back

Another difficult game for Stephen Gostkowski. He was one for two in field goal attempts, along with missed extra points as well. We’ve seen these spurts from the kicker in the past. Now we have people wondering if he isn’t good anymore. No game is perfect, but the Pats were pretty close to perfect in all aspects. Gostkowski will be fine when the big moments come. But for now, it is safe to be a little bit concerned when Gostkowski lines up to attempt a kick.

Another all around solid game for the Patriots. In the foreseeable future, the Patriots should not come close to a competitive game until week nine in Baltimore. This Patriots team has the opportunity to be very special this year. For now, we take an important road victory in Miami and get revenge from last season.

Final Score: Patriots 43 Dolphins 0
